IIRC - A shared space for conversation for close friends who are far away
Hey guys.
It's time we had a place to share our thoughts and keep each other updated and connected to each of our daily lives. The idea of this blog is to have a loose format where each of us gives an update on our life in whatever way feels right, and poses questions that inspire the kinds of conversations we used to have in college.
What kind of music are you listening to lately? What show are you into right now and why? What is surprising or difficult about life after college? What's coming on the horizon? What is an interesting thought you recently had? What worries you? What are you proud of? What do you want to work on in terms of personal growth? Do you still eat as shitty as we all did back in college?
Whatever thoughts float through your head that you find relevant to share, we should do that here, for us. Maybe we can't go back to the days of smoking, eating pizza, sitting in the backyard of the North Chorro house, or procrastinating all the stuff we should be doing by binge-watching netflix or spending hours playing smash, but we can and should keep up the exchange of ideas that made our friendship and 5 (4 years for you Heussy) years in college so fruitful and thoughtful. I don't know if other friend groups have those kinds of talks, but I am very grateful for all of you, and all the times we had meaningful conversation (even if it might have just been college bullshitting at times).
There is a lot of traps to get lost in, in this "real world", and the one I refuse to fall prey to is feeling isolated and lonely when my best friends are a phone call, a text or some key strokes away. Like we realized at Coachella this year (wish you could have been there Heussy), is that we all are struggling with similar things, and that the transition out of college has left us feeling lonely. Though we may be farther from each other, and we all spend more time alone, that does not mean we have to indulge loneliness, that with a little effort can easily be dispelled as the illusion it is.
So my friends, post the song stuck in your head, photos of the life around you, thoughts about your anxieties and your triumphs, share your existential crises and let us commune. Like Justin Vernon said at Coachella this year, "if you don't have powerful relationships, then you have nothing".
Anyone can post at anytime, about anything, but to give this a little direction I think Danny should be the first to write something considering he just flew his entire life across the world. Where is your head at right now? How are you and Alex handling the newness and unknown? What is the view like outside of your window? What have you noticed that was surprisingly different than life in the US? "Tag" someone to be next to write in the blog, or ask a question of us all.
Welcome to our blog guys, IIRC.
